The MatSu Borough is striving to encompass all its land in Community Councils.
The Talkeetna Community Council created a Boundary Committee in the summer of 2016 to look into an expansion to the East. The committee created a TalkeetnaFAQ document (see below) to explain the pros and cons of an expansion.
Matanuska-Susitna Borough Code, 2.76 Community Councils, requires that
the borough conduct a periodic review of community council boundaries and
make adjustments as necessary. Upon the borough’s notification to the
Talkeetna Community Council that this review was underway, the Talkeetna
Community Council submitted a request to the borough to amend their
boundaries to match those of the 1997 Talkeetna Comprehensive Plan, which
would increase it from the existing 25 square miles, to the proposed 290
square miles.
The Talkeetna Community Council's Boundary Committee keeps monitoring the Boroughs activities with regards to the boundary adjustments, but is not actively meeting anymore.
