Management Plans

The Talkeetna Comprehensive Plan, adopted in Jan 1998, provides the framework for development in the community. This Community/Tourism Plan gives more detail on specific actions needed to respond to recent, rapid growth.

        The document covers:
            circulation
            community growth / SPUD
            governance

The Talkeetna Comprehensive Plan is a compilation of information, projections, and policies which is intended as a general guide for the development of a community. The intent of the comprehensive plan is to articulate the local population's expectations and public interest as they relate to community development so that future community growth can be consistent with these desires.

Alaska state statue and Matanuska-Susitna Borough code require comprehensive planning. Once comprehensive plans are adopted, they become instrumental in influencing public and private policy decisions.

The Talkeetna Riverfront Park Land Use Plan & Economic Development Strategy guides the future use of the valuable 75-acre river front area. This planning effort has included participation from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, the residents and businesses of Talkeetna and the Alaska Railroad Corporation (ARRC) which owns most of the property considered by this plan. Use of the riverfront area is growing. This plan intends to guide this growth so that the riverfront can bring greater benefits and fewer problems to residents, visitors and landowners.
